Karim Rashid’s new designs and Punkalive’s reusable modular elements on display
Punkalive’s innovative wood design is this year presented at IMM Cologne 2012 introducing new designs by the world famous industrial designer Karim Rashid, Punkalive’s reusable modular Kerto®-wood elements as well as some joint products Punkalive has developed with its partners. The popular storage box line – including different sizes of Avanto and Pölkky – will now have a new family member Poks in three sizes. Punkalive has also created a playful piece of furniture for children, a rocking chair Kiikku in two sizes.
The partner products on display are the Jotos shelf with high-quality Amphion loudspeakers and the Avanto light developed together with Innojok.
MODULAR ELEMENTS
Punkalive’s modular element is a revolutionary product of a new innovative freeform wooden building construction system developed and designed by architect Jukka Lommi. The freestanding modular units allow variable use and reworking of the shape; they are structurally durable, save installation costs and time and last but not least, they follow Punkalive’s ecological approach as they are reusable over and over again.
KARIM RASHID
Karim Rashid, one of today’s most innovative designers, entered last year the world of wood by designing outstanding new products for Punkalive. Inspired by Punkalive´s unique material and production techniques, Karim Rashid has created numerous designs of which Punkalive is delighted to present some new ones at the stand at IMM.
The cooperation with Karim Rashid began in 2009 at Punkalive’s launch at Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan and will continue with more new launches still this year.
LOW ROLLER coffee table belongs to the same line with the High Roller sun lounger. The complete product consists of two different sized tables. The smaller one can be placed inside the bigger one.
MAYA TABLE The Ziggurats were built by ancient Mayans and Punkalive’s Maya products are a 21st. Century homage to them. In this new digital age form beckons complexity, so with Punkalive’s computer-controlled production process I wanted to make data driven geometry that straddles both the natural world and constructs of mathematics. Maya products are sustainable, biodegradable, yet has a futurist presence. - Karim Rashid
